The Department of Public Works is a full service, front-line, operational unit.  Our focus is to provide services in infrastructure and maintenance geared to the safety and comfort of the residents living and visiting within the Borough of Seaside Park.   We maintain all public buildings, beaches, parks, boardwalk, piers, Borough owned roadways, vehicles and equipment, and perform solid waste and recycling collection.

Public works was officially added as a first responder in 2005 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  In emergency situations, the public works staff works closely with police and fire personnel to help assess damage, and develop and implement responses.  The Department of Public Works is often on scene preemptively making preparations well before an event is declared an emergency and continues working through and often long after the emergency is over.

A typical day at Public Works can include an assortment of activities which will vary depending upon the season we are currently in.  We are responsible for:

  • Trash and recycling collection
  • Borough facilities maintenance
  • Cleaning, inspection and maintenance of Borough owned storm drains.
  • Landscaping, grass cutting and tree trimming on Borough grounds
  • Road repair, trench paving, pot hole patching, and maintenance of Borough owned streets
  • Street sweeping of Borough owned streets; including sand moving and transport
  • Summer beach operations – setup/break down of beach patrol/control operations
  • Dune maintenance – fencing, grass planting
  • Beach crossover maintenance and ADA beach “T”s
  • Beach cleaning
  • Boardwalk maintenance
  • Snow plowing of Borough owned roads
  • Litter cleanup
  • Vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair
  • Street sign installation and repair
  • The recycling center
  • Municipal parks, piers, bulkheads and boat ramp
  • Borough parking lots
  • Borough playgrounds and athletic facilities located at 13th, 5th and O Street.
  • Emergency response assistance
  • The Water & Sewer Department is also an integral part of Public Works.

Public Works is a Department that works year-round encompassing projects and services that are vital to the community in which we serve.
