As a part of its Safety Acceleration and Facility Enhancement (SAFE) program approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU), New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) is replacing certain portions of its existing infrastructure that is aged and most susceptible to corrosion and leaks.

Beginning in early September, NJNG will be starting several projects within the Borough of Seaside Park, NJ. Combined, these projects will replace nearly 10,000 feet of bare steel distribution main and associated services. The following roads will be affected:

  • South Ocean Avenue from the 8th Avenue to 14th Avenue
  • 9th Avenue from Ocean Avenue to Central Avenue
  • 10th Avenue from Ocean Avenue to Central Avenue
  • 11th Avenue from Ocean Avenue to Central Avenue
  • 12th Avenue from Ocean Avenue to Central Avenue
  • 13th Avenue from Ocean Avenue to Central Avenue
  • 14th Avenue from Ocean Avenue to Central Avenue
  • North Ocean Avenue from Farragut Avenue to N Street
  • Farragut Avenue from Central Avenue to North Ocean Ave
  • Stockton Avenue from Central Avenue to North Ocean Ave
  • Lafayette Avenue from Central Avenue to North Ocean Ave
  • O Street from Central Avenue to North Ocean Ave
  • N Street from Central Avenue to Boulevard

NJNG’s contractor will replace and/or reconnect all natural gas service lines in the project area at no cost to the property owner. Affected property owners will be contacted to make arrangements for their natural gas service to be restored at a mutually agreeable time. Additionally, in order to relight all appliances, NJNG will require access to the property. To ensure that your NJNG account has the most up-to-date contact information please call 1-800-221-0051.

Additionally, as a part of its New Jersey Reinvestment in System Enhancements (NJ RISE) program approved by the BPU, NJNG will continue work on the South Seaside Reinforcement project. The next phase of this project entails the installation of 3,700 feet of 12” steel distribution main on South Bayview Avenue from 3rd Avenue to I Street, then along I Street to Route 35 southbound.

Construction on the SAFE and NJ RISE projects is expected to last approximately seven months. During this time, please be mindful of potential traffic impacts, including lane shifts, closures, and detours.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. Our commitment is to ensure safety and minimize the impact on our community.
