Marriage License Applications

Requirements for Entering into a Marriage:

  • Not be a party to another civil union, domestic partnership or marriage in this State or recognized by this State
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Where to Apply:

Apply for your marriage license in the NJ municipality where either party resides. If neither party resides in NJ, submit the application in the municipality where the ceremony will be performed.

To apply for a marriage license in Seaside Park, an appointment is required. Please contact the Office of Vital Statistics to make your appointment: 732-793-3700 ext. 105 or ext. 106.

What You'll Need for Your Appointment:

  • Witness 18 years or older (Must Show ID)
  • Proof of identity by presenting your driver's license, passport, or State/Federal ID
  • Proof of residency by one applicant if you are an NJ resident
  • Know your Social Security Number
  • $28 application fee

*Any documents in a foreign language must be accompanied by a certified English translation*

You may fill out the Marriage License Application in advance of the appointment, but please do not sign the application until you are in the presence of the Local Registrar. You must sign under oath in the presence of the issuing authority.

After Your Appointment

There is a 72-hour waiting period before the license can be issued. Your application is valid for 6 months from the date accepted. Only 1 marriage license may be granted from a marriage application. If the license expires before being used, a new application must be made and another fee remitted.

Once a marriage license is issued, the license is valid for 30 days. After your ceremony, your marriage license is filed with the municipality where the ceremony was performed.
